Full Version: Steering rack boots at same time brake master cylinder R&R?

Good morning, hope everybody had a good weekend so far.

If memory serves having the brake master cylinder out of the way will make the steering rack boot refresh easier, so plan to do both the master cylinder or an hour in the rack boots at the same time?

are they torn? if yes, then yes. If not torn, I would leave them alone. But that's just me.

Hi Mark, actually Schrantz. This is for the white 1974 Fresno car, everything else I’ve touched on this that is rubber has crumbled because it sat for a long time in dry heat, so while the boots look OK right now I’m thinking they’re probably sketchy.

Of course, under the heading of more work and I’m not really looking to do right now, if I’m replacing the rack boots it would be time to upgrade to the better tie rods.

If you are there and they are crappy yes. If not clean them and put back on. Just make sure you are not introducing more dirt into the rack. The turbo tie rods have a different boot so if you do those you will be changing them see below
