I'm unable to get into first gear without forcing it in unless the car has a little momentum. Reverse selection is a hell of a grind to get in also. 2nd to 5th are as smooth as silk.

All of the slector bushings were new just 2 years ago. Same for the clutch which has done less than 2000 miles.

Any tips on what to look for?

There are a few youtube channels that really get into the workings and how to repair and fix the oem transmissions. I don't know why I watch all of them as I have a 6spd, but the precision and knowledge of these mechanics and there passion for originality is awesome.

I'd suggest starting with verifying clutch adjustment.

Yep, too often it's that and has been out of adjustment for a long time grinding off the dogteeth which is part of the grinding. Tighten it up and get it just so the throwout bearing isn't just touching the clutch plate. A old clutch cable too with lots of stretch in it also makes it hard to have a smooth gear shifting into 1st/Rev.

I also think grinding into reverse is clutch not fully releasing.

Also, check for a possible clutch cable tube detachment in the tunnel.
