Will removing just 1 CM from the top of the shifter lever be noticeable when shifting? In other words, will it be harder to shift and require more effort? I am trying to utilize a custom shift knob which does not cover as much of the shifter shaft as the stock knob, revealing some flaws in the chrome. If I cut off 1 CM from the top of the shaft that bad part will be hidden under the new knob. Thanks.

Hey Ans,
The shifter is a lever, as you stated. If we use simple math, let's say the shift lever is approximately 25 cm long as measured from the pivot point in the console. If you were to remove 1 cm, you would increase the required original shifter force, as measured at your hand, by 1/25 of whatever it was. In other words, inconsequential......

Sounds logical Oakdale. Thanks. I may not have to cut it anyway, as I found a nice piece of rubber tubing that fits perfect below the knob and mates just right so it looks like part of the knob. Hides the chrome flaws.

torque = force X distance

1 cm equals .39 of an inch. So I doubt you would really notice the difference.
