If we follow the firing order for valve adjustment, (1,4,3,2) you have to go clockwise to adjust in that order. Some topics say to go counterclockwise. Does it matter once you find #1 TDC? Also, if cylinders #1 and #3 share the same timing mark, why can't you adjust those cylinders at the same time? : confused: Be kind, I'm old (80)

Either way is fine just know where you are or just do it with the crusty method.
There are only four lobes on the cam, each shares two valves. So if the valve on one side is completely depressed, the valve on the opposite side must be loose. So rotate the engine till your valve is completely depressed as far as it will go, then adjust the opposite. So if exhaust on cylinder 4 is all the way in, exhaust on cylinder 1 must be loose and ready for adjusting. Just work your way around, not caring which stroke you are on or any of the other nonsense. I think the easiest way to rotate the engine is to put it in 5th gear and just roll a tire. You need to block the opposite tire of course. |

Thanks for the replies, and 914 World[i] has been my manual since '08 when I first joined. The only other source I might even consider is The Bird.......maybe. Let me see if this is right: 90 degrees between #1 and #4 (going clockwise)?
This has been my project since 2018, need to step up my game b-4 I get my ticket punched. I know how to do the adjustment, I just forgot a lot over the years. |
