Porsche and the VW Audi group, sometimes 'Run whatca brung works best; 962C with 928 door lock mechanism . Weissach race engineers choice of this part : Why invest / re-invent a perfect mouse trap ? !
In the 1970's I sourced the T4 valve covers from the VW dealer >> part of our MSDS T4 turbo kits. We added an A/N #12 oil drain to the lower v/cover , included in the kits (full bolt-on). Porsche dealer = same part at 2x cost, love the OE parts sharing . |

Spot on. I’ve always been baffled when people said the 914 isn’t Porsche because it used VW parts.
Many of those same people looked the other way when it was Audi parts on their 924/944. Same people had no idea about where the Beetle or the 356 came from. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

Dr. Porsche designed the VW type 1 didn't he?
I see him as the Father of German automobiles. Even to this day German parts are often identical. I needed "European Large Bore Valve cores" for a VW Golf GTI. From VW they cost $30+ Exact same critter from BMW cost $9 Guess which ones I bought? GM had the strangest mispricing on power window switches for decades. $70-90 from anything else but a Cadillac dealer where they were $30! The Italians are the most cut-throat. A $1000 308 Ferrari starter IS a $100 124 Spider starter. When it's overpriced I check around a bit... |
