16" Toyo Proxes Tires - alternates that are equivalent Options

Currently have the following Toyo Proxes Tires (directional) that "spark joy":

185/50 R 16 81V

245/35 ZR 16 86W

Yes and however, they have been NLA for quite a while. Any equivalent 16" Tires available with the same aspect ratio in a performance tire that you like?

I have been running 225/50/16s front and 255/50/16s rear. I think I am down to BF Goodrich T/As (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I really miss my Yokohamas. Disconrinued. Then moved to Dulnaps. Discontinued

I’m using these on my flared /6 and on my 930. 225/45 R16 & 245/45 R16.

Profiles look great on my /6, but fronts look odd on my 930, needs more (cowbell) sidewall.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) 914's need taller sidewalls for a vintage performance look. With today's tire advancements I dont think there is enough of a handling gain to move up to 17 or larger diameter wheels with rubber bands for tires.

Yes, running flares with 964 wheels (D90s). Really don't want to give up the tread width because there's room for it, but maybe losing 3/4" width will be OK. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sorry, forgot to mention that the car will only see street driving, so no A/X or track only tires.

i dont have that big or as wide i should say but the 911 guys i hang around here with either get the R888's or Bridgstone RE-71's and i am trying to decide the same for my new tires going on my 16's i have 6's up front and 7's rear so 205-55/16 size wise,
and am leaning toward the Bridgesone RE since i do some autocross and they are a great tire for that. Toyo R888's are used by a lot of 911 guys but i am told they are much more noisy. so if you want nice sticky street tires the Bridgestone RE are a 200 wear tire and great for street and mountain road driving.

I think the biggest challenge you are going to face in that class of tire is the specific size you are looking for. 16" can be especially limiting there.

I have ran both Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RZ and BFG g-Force Rival which have rated the top of that class of tire, both are amazing but neither come in a 245 width for 16"


Side note though, 185/50 16 front and 245/35 16 rear is a pretty unusual setup. Is your car flared front and rear? What is the width and if you know it offset of the wheels you are running? Just matching the tires you have on there now may not even be the optimal way to go, especially given its such a strange setup.

Yes, we understand replacing these tires is a challenge, if we want to retain the low profile and width (particularly the rear ones). Hence this post asking for input from you all, the experts. Also hoping for a solution or tire source that can fit our needs and wants.

One criteria is that they be street tires with tread wear 200+.

Another criteria is the tires fit 16" 6" wide rims for the front and 8" for the rear. Wheels are: 6J 16 52mm and 8J 16 52mm

Yes, it's an unusual setup. The car is a Frankenstein monster with lots of 911 parts, including the "Design 90" wheels that we absolutely love. The car has flairs front and rear and uses spacers all around. We aren't changing the wheels, so we are looking at compromising on the sizes. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

We have pretty much settled on the direction we plan to go in, but other than buy some stale dated tires, we are looking at changing tire sizes.

Thats the sizes ,had a search and found I had written it down,I had the same rims on my 944 and the tyres were that size ,cheers.
