I tried searching the Garage section for this information, but couldn't find anything.
Looking for tips from others who have successfully removed, cleaned, and reinstalled their PCV valve. 1. What was your step by step process to remove the part? 2. What did you use to clean it. TIA |

I removed the oil fill bit from the car (need to get a gasket for that) and then removed the pcv valve from it. Cleaned thoroughly with carb cleaner. Reassembled. It is a very simple piece.

I don't see instructions in the Haynes manual nor online about how to actually remove the PCV valve. How does one remove it to clean it?
Obvi I don't want to break this thing since they are NLA. I have the oil filler base off. When I try to turn the white plastic cap that sits on the oil filler base, it just spins. Do I need to hold the bottom of the PVC valve from the bottom (inside the oil filler base) while I turn that white plastic cap on the top outside of the oil filler base get it to loosen and not spin? Right now I'm pinching that bottom of the PCV valve with fingers on one hand while I try to turn the white cap, but it's not budging. I guess I need to douse it with some carb cleaner and let it sit over night and then try again? |

It's been years but I seem to remember plastic nut that you need to turn to remove it. And you are right to be careful. Have you poked a light in there?

You should be able to see everything you need from below. Yes, but things are quite gunky so hard to see what’s what. I’ve never seen a new PCV valve uninstalled so no point of reference. Basically a plastic bolt with a thin plastic nut. Easily broken. |
