Has anyone taken a look at the way the various interior lights snap into the clips in the seat back? Here is a photo of what I believe is an original white switch light next to a correct markings black switch light.

Why this is somewhat significant? My dad and I were repairing the seat back where one of the metal mounting clips rivets to the fiberboard. Even when positioning the clip in the original location our light (the black switch variation) just didn't want to snap into place. You'd have to push the black switch in further than the bezel would allow to engage. Comparing these two, the groove location explains not just why it doesn't seat but also probably why that clip got forced out of position.

Our car is a 1970 with the fixed seat back. So maybe newer cars had different clip locations?

I've read a lot of threads about original interior lights, including this one with great comparison details, but I haven't seen the side detail covered.

That is a very interesting observation. I'll have to look in my parts stash to see what I have.
