Working on installing 930 valve covers on a 6 conversion.
I need dimensions of the cut that needs to be made to make it work. Picture would also help either posted or emailed. Thanks in advance. |

If you sand off 5/16" from the fins, it fits.

Don't need to take off very much. Took these pictures AFTER I got them fitted, replaced covers with engine in the car.
first 2 are left side, next 2 right side.     |

Remove as little as possible to retain strength, I used a surface grinder with a Harbor Freight flapper disk . fit as you go with the engine in the car, actually goes pretty fast.

So does removing a small area retain strength or create a stress riser vs sanding the entire top the same amount.

Well, I'm not a metallurgist but those pictures were taken 11 years ago, the covers are still on the engine, and I haven't had any leaks yet... Since the idea of the ribbing is to add overall rigidity to the covers, I would think taking almost half off the entire thing would have more of an impact. Just my 2 cents... |
