Causing this to happen (I’d just pulled the windshield because of the stupid trim clips at the center top (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) )

This is the 2nd post I have seen regarding window trim popping off at speed. What is causing this? I have had my car at 130 for a good bit and no issues so far. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

If this turns out to be the trim clips, I'd be laying down the $$$s for the Porsche OEM clips.

I also would guess that the trim clips were not replaced (no windshield shop would stock these). Or it wasn’t clipped all the way if it was replaced
Believe the factory calls these clips one time use Most windshield shops use glue instead of and just are not familiar with using clips |

When I originally installed the windshield - apparently two clips at the top center broke for whatever reason (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (aftermarket from a supplier we all use ).. I pulled the windshield about a month ago to replace the broken clips. I ended up replacing them all because I had an extra set of the aftermarket ones as I'd bought two sets for two cars before I knew these suck (most felt fine to use again tho, TBH), but yea will buy the Porsche ones from now on.
I know they need to be pushed in firmly, these were.. but you can see in my picture that, that particular clip has backed out a bit towards the glass. IF THE LITTLE CHEAP PEG HAS NOT BROKEN, I can probably push it back in and 'brace' it in place w/ more butyl. Fingers crossed that it works - cause slipping one in is out of the question, the whole glass has to come out. |

Replaced my windshield about 3 years ago and replaced 2-3 broken clips with aftermarket clips. Haven't had trim pop off yet and agree, it's a bit tricky to get the trim to clip into the clips.

Lets see you were going 90 MPH in 3rd gear thru a toll road . Oh its the new speed restrictor lasers the state has set up to do any car going that fast . They dismantle your car piece by piece starting with the windshield . That not slow you down they throw out the spike chains.

Don't use aftermarket clips. I know of several failures of clips from a well known aftermarket supplier. Including breakage when the trim was installed. Use Porsche only.
Expensive clips but so is the trim. Also had this happen to a friend at 120mph. It was before the crap clips were made. |

I thought the second pic would be red lights behind you How grounded is she at speed? Lets see you were going 90 MPH in 3rd gear thru a toll road . To be clear, this was not me that was driving... the pictures were taken by the local who bought the 1.7L resto I recently completed. And, as for the stability at speed, I don't know (I meant to ask) but he had mentioned running it up to 90 on another occasion as well (so, comfortable (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ). |

just out of interest -
what is the official speed limit these days on the interstates in the USA? like when do you get booked. secondary roads speed limits? ----- its all going to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) down here. i moved out of the inner city i could not stand it anymore. down to 30kmh. thats not mph, thats kph. dickheads on pushbikes pass you on the left (thats right side where you are). i won't even mention the electric scooters and bikes overtaking. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) out here near the peripheric (fancy french for ring road (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ) its mostly the old urban limit of 60kmh (35mph in USA "imperial") or 50kmh. our interstate highways are mainly 110 kmh and strictly enforced. cameras and camera cars everywhere. we have all ceased to call it a police state because the cops are nowhere to be seen. all automated enforcement and contract camera car companies. you might be tempted to call it a nanny state, but only if joseph stalin was your grandmother. the tickets are off the planet. serious $ $250 start and headed up to $1k. + demerit points. at 30 kmh over they impound the car. you lose your license. they might even crush the car, depends on how much beyond 30 kmh+the limit you are. and to add insult to injury they have started lowering the speed limit on secondary country roads to 80kmh. it used to be 100kmh. i am glad i was born when i was and got to enjoy driving when driving was driving. meanwhile the idiots who can't drive but have cars and keys to them continue to crash their cars, roll overs, head ons you name it - all at a snails pace. 90 mph (145 kmh) if on interstate down here is instant impound and give us your license territory. rant terminated. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) but i do have a secret location down here, close-ish to the "garage" for 6.30 am sunday morning wind outs in the 914 and the renault. i call it the back straight. don't tell anyone or they will put a camera in. |

I have had mine up to near 100 on the front and back straights at the Glen. Very stable, same as I pound the brakes going from 90 to <30 mph into the bus stop and turn 1. Car never feels out of control and very predictable. Mine is >12 inches wider than stock though.

I had my trim come off as well. I pulled the windshield and replaced all the clips. Be cautious of companies in Atlanta.

Sounds similar to here. 50km/h in town, 80 outside of town and 120 on motorways (where they are not limited to 100 or less, more and more areas like that). Other countries around me similar, 50 km/h is virtually universal inside town limits, France has 80 or 90 outside (depending on the département) and 130 on motorways. Italy similar. Only in Germany are there still stretches of unlimited on the Autobahn, about an hour north of Basel starts one section that I occasionally take going to my friend the 914 specialist. There the 'teener will cruise nicely at 140-150 km/h, had it up to 170 for a bit, but didn't want to push it.... Fines in this country are also very expensive. Lots of photo radar. A few weeks ago in the 914 I got "blitzed" by one in a 50 kph zone going at 59. 10 days later the fine shows up in the mail - 120 CHF (about $150 US). They took off 3 kph for "margin of error", so it was actually for 56 in a 50. How much it costs and what the risks are depends on whether you are in town, out of town or on the motorway. 66 kph or over in a 50 is $1000 and you can already lose your license for a month. 75 kph in a 50 zone can land you in jail. A little less stringent out of town or on the motorway, but if you are really excessive they can confiscate the car and sell/destroy it (in addition to losing license and jail time). I have to be really careful on the bike... With 160 ponies/225 kg, a slight twist of the throttle and I'm in "jail zone". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) |

End of the day it snapped in real nice ,has passed the 100mph plus many times but really not in great condition (trim condition wise ) but not a big deal ,cheers. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) nice to know we are not alone and that other countries engage in tormenting the motorists amongst us. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) big difference of course is your part of the world is toy scaled compared to aus. we directly compare to the USA in terms of vast distances to be covered. with i might add even more nothingness between inhabited towns. the reason they are doing it here is one word. revenue. and the immoral part is upon collecting said revenue they don't use it to maintain roads. since covid our regional roads have deteriorated so badly the lower speed limits are of assistance in preserving (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) suspension and wheel rims. still curious to know when the cops in the USA pull you over and pull out the ticket book. i still remember getting done in new jersey shortly after crossing the state border headed for new york. i was cruising 65 on the interstate oblivious to new jersey still having 55 limit. state trooper got me instantly. gave up giving me a ticket when he heard my accent and gazed at my international drivers license and told me to take my heavy aussie foot off the gas pedal. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) that was xmas 88/89. |
