the pumpkin's gas tank has black flakes in it when I looked with the borescope. Should I have it cleaned(boiled?) out or should I get a new one. If cleaned out do radiator shops do that?
Thanks Renee |

We coated the inside of our 924S with the gas tank kit from POR-15. Follow all the steps and it should turn out good. Be sure to check for pinholes near where the gas tank rests on the carpet support, they usually corrode there from the outside.

I just used POR15 tank sealer and it worked great, takes four days to cure. POR15 has a cleaner to use first, then seal.

I am in the process of cleaning out my gas tank. I used electrolysis to pull out the rust. Ran the process for a week.
DM me if you want to chat about the process. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now I'm going to use the KBS gas tank sealing kit as the final step. George |

Thanks guys.
Just bought a new tank, that is the easy way ...... not the cheap way lol. I am thinking i will need to flush out new tank before install. What to use for that? Gas?, soapy water? Renee |

Probably a good idea to replace it, especially if the flakes you saw were corrosion.
It's very discouraging to go to all the work to refurbish a gas tank only to have it leak. If you have one leak, how long untill another pinhole pops up? And, I've read that some sealants end up failing. But, don't know, never used it other than a small puncture fixed with some special epoxy putty stuff on a car that wasn't worth making a proper fix. As for cleaning the new tank, either not necessary or you could slosh some gas around inside, especially if you see any dirt from manufacturing. Just looked at a brand new tank and can't see any dirt ir debris inside it. |

Not looking to steal the thread but since the big guns are in here, should the op, or can the op convert to threaded AN style fittings all the way back?

Renee Test fit before you add anything flammable to the tank. I bought a new tank, although ordered for a 74 the top bracket and side tab were not there. Removed them from my old tank and welded on the replacement tank. |

Things may have changed now, but about 4 years ago I met a 914 owner who purchased a new Dansk tank and regretted doing so due to fitment issues.

Not looking to steal the thread but since the big guns are in here, should the op, or can the op convert to threaded AN style fittings all the way back? kevin If you replace the original plastic lines that are routed through the tunnel inside the car, it's not really a great idea to run AN (-6 or -8) fittings on solid stainless lines because the holes for the fuel lines routed through the firewall and the front of the footwell area aren't big enough unless you hack them up pretty good or install the fittings on each end after you've run them through the tunnel/firewall. Doable, but not so much fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) But if you plan to do it, consider using Teflon braided stainless steel lines. We had Chris Foley weld some AN fittings on the rear end of his feed and return lines and called it good. |

How did the tank work out for you? I'm looking at the same brand. Liland is here in East Syracuse, NY. I drive by it often. I can stop in and see if they would let me take pictures of a tank if that would be helpful. If you want thats fine, but dont make a special trip. |
