The posting on fuel pump failure and towing got me wondering… if the pump is up front in bottom panel, could a trap door in the frunk spare wheel well be installed to access it from above?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
Input, thoughts, and ideas welcome! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) Fuel pump location by the steering rack allows ready access and doesn't require removing tank for maintenance. |

Believe 75'-76's all had the fuel pump in the frunk. This means you can hopefully source the stock pump service cover/mount plate. The mod seems pretty straight forward. Make sure to cut the rectangle hole correctly, source parts etc. Pump is removed from heat of engine and exhaust. |

Mine’s a 74, so moved it to the steering area several years ago. Really not able to get under there while on the side of the road.
Looks possible to make an access door above it in the spare tire well, just in case….? |

I had mine underneath... steering rack area for years.
got fearful of exactly the same thing... that a side of the road repair would require me to jack the car up, be underneath... make the repair more difficult. so added the 75 blister and pump location to my 1974 for the same reason |

Moved mine to the steering rack also. Drop the pan and easy access to the pump and fuel filter.

From pictures above it looks like the stock pump location would make installing an anti sway bar problematic. Has anyone had this experience? Can you have both?

Not sure what a “75 blister” is, though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

Blister?
This (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ![]() But there are more details to the story. The 75-76 fuel filter have tabs so the filter can be mounted against the cabin/fuel tank firewall as seen on this yellow car. 75-76 filter: ![]() In a 75-76 car: ![]() Unfortunately, those 75-76 filter are very difficult to find and the replacement do not have those tabs to slide the filter on the fork bracket. My workaround for the front pump retrofit (or postfit? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ) was to use the bracket located in the rear of the car and modify it so it can be installed at the 75-76 location. Also the early bracket catches the filter differently so the new ones can be properly installed. Reworked bracket: ![]() Pump port fab: ![]() ![]() ![]() Final result with the filter bracket and installed pump. Notice the 19mm sway bar above it all everything clears nicely. ![]() |

This can all be yours for a little bit of $ + shipping, Honestly that a pretty good deal, (if tariffs haven't affect the price) I started making them out of FG but after RD started offering those I stopped making them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Agreed, this is a pretty good deal.
SMC regularly offers 15% off, and sometimes 20%. They tend to be higher scale in their prices, but this kit is worth it. Only missing the pump plated straps. |
