Looks like a custom gauge option from the standard one I have in my center console . You have one sensor near the oil cooler I believe which is for the idiot light on my dash gauge and the one in yhe taco plate near the engine oil drain on the bottom ,Yours looks like that gauge so It should be a 200C I believe .

Looks like a custom gauge option <snip> It should be a 200C I believe. Nope & nope. The combo gauge can often be found with a temp insert up top rather than the "idiot" light (hard to see but still there on R.) & the range should be 300F (approx 150C) = VDO 323-055 replacement sender |

That is a factory gauge for cars without a console so it uses the same temp sender as the gauge in the console.
Why would they put in a different sender and have to figure out if the motor has the correct sender. It is easier for assembly if you use the same sender for both gauges. And I had one of these in Betty's car until we put in the triple gauge. |

The 914/4 combo gauges use the same 200C sensor as the console mounted temp gauge. Here the the link to graphics and The text of the Bruce Anderson Panorama article with graphics and gauge calibration points for the /4 combo gauge with the 200C sensor. Which sender do I need then? 039 919 268 is the one PET references as does Greg's graphic above as the 200c unit (and the one I'd planned to buy before my first oil change). BTW, it's a longer unit physically than the VDO 323-055 that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Probably either of those would work but I'm thinking the latter may be the unit typically sold with the smaller MODERN VDO "cockpit" oil gauge (just a guess). |

Ugh! This is all masturbatory.
Unless you replace that OE insert (or stock center console gauge) with a scaled one (from a 911(?) you are only guessing at what the oil temp is anyway. Yes to my knowledge George is the only one offering a repop 60mm gauge (same size as OE) to fit the Center console otherwise the VDO part-310012d is your only option & must use their accessory cup & bezel to look correct. Note that the temp rating on the sender is the MAX (red zone IE 300F) 200C is approx 400F which is TOO HOT for a /4 & isnt useful to be observed from a non scaled gauge. what do I know I only sell these things day in & day out. Ive switched from the VDO to the Jorg units with my assemblies so I didnt have to carry both parts |

Maybe because there is no visible scale, you don't like the needle sitting as high? I can accept that if it makes since... what's your reasoning? The 200c sender puts the beginning of the red zone at around 156c (314f or so). Everything else suggests that the 200c sender was what was actually used by the factory for the particular gauge that the OP has (including George who's only been selling these things day in day out - for a while, also). |
