I'm having an issue with my vent controls and since I have my gas tank out at the moment I though it would be a good time to address the problem. Currently, my defrost and floor settings work great but I can't seem to get any air out of my dash vents. Here's a pic of the control setup. Do I have something incorrectly connected? I remember following the instructions in thread a few years ago (yellow 914 pics). I'm thinking I might have switched the short and medium length controls. Not sure. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

So, could switching these two wires cause the dash vents not to work? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

I'm sure others will reply.
If you take off the Black Duct hoses you can see how the flaps inside work. I had to do this when I replaced cables.
oh and that back cable is a booger to get at.

Thanks @hndyhrr . Great idea. That way I can see what's going on currently before messing with it.

I didn't realize you could still buy a brand new 914.

You are correct!

You can't simply purchase a new 914.

Only way to get one is the hard way like Fred did.

This level of "new" is a bit masochistic IMO...

After looking at everything, it seems to be assembled correctly. I think my problem is something else. If I have defrost then I should have dash vents since that smaller tube comes off the defrost plenum. Once I get the battery back in, I’ll test everything out for real.

@bkrantz - Nice pics! Thank you. I can confirm that mine is routed just like yours. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) I don't think my vent issue is related to the pull wires. Since the vents work off the defrost pipe, and the defrost works, something must be blocked or closed as the air goes through the smaller hose, through the dash to the vent itself. Yes, I made sure the open/close lever at the top of the vent was open. I'll test it all out again once I reinstall the battery this weekend.
