Looks darker than Baltic blue, but does not appear to be a bad deal with the engine upgrade. No affiliation.

I’m no stranger to Porsche, but just starting a search for a 914, and my 914 knowledge is pretty minimal. In fact, I’ve never even driven one. Is an aftermarket engine block like this seen as a value add or, like a lot of engine mods in other models, does it make the car difficult to sell? I like the idea of 125 hp, but with the color change, I’m guessing this car is never going to sell for a top of market price. But does the engine modification further hurt the value?

I actually like the color, even though not period factory correct, and I actually drive my cars, so I’m not looking for a garage queen. But, I don’t want a car that’s going to be impossible to sell if I ever decide to.

I think that 2056 from Original Customs adds value! If you drive your cars, then this looks to be a nice option. I'd go look at it if I were in the market. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png)

Not an aftermarket engine block, it has a rebuilt engine supplied by Original Customs, very reputable company and 914World supporter.

The motor alone is $5000 investment, without the installation.

The carbs are a love/hate type thing, if you are comfortable with them then not a bad deal at all.

Hmm, now I’m intrigued. Do you guys ever go check out a local car for sale as a favor to someone else?

And I agree, that’s definitely not Baltic Blue:

Good, glad to hear. I have been a member on Rennlist since 2003 and am a moderator on 996outpost.com. I’ve gone to check out local cars at the request of others at least 10 times. I’m always happy to do that as I enjoy it. At this point, you’d have to take any report I do with a grain of salt because I’m just getting started learning about these cars.

And man, there is a lot to learn! I appreciate the members here and their willingness to share their knowledge with a 914 newbie like me.

Edit: Aww, man, you changed your post while I was responding, apparently. I understood your original post to say that people on here would go check out a car local to them on behalf of someone who lives far away. I apologize if I was being out of line.

Thank you for the reply. I think I read somewhere that a change to carbs should be accompanied with a cam change. Is that true?

I assume the engine in this car would be set up for carbs as it's an upgrade.

After ALL the dust settles, the investment in that engine is more than 5k.

This car has resurfaced on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/293663507465

Really an interesting car with lots of new parts. If I hadn’t just bought a 914, I would be interested in this one. If I recall correctly, the asking price on Craigslist was $15,000. Currently the high bid is $5,100 (reserve not met). I wonder what it would bring if the respray had been done in the original color.

It's also back on CL here in the Bay Area. $18,488 asking price. The posting says it has a "Jake Baby" engine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

Agreed - very nice color! Very sharp car.

Based on year probably a respray of the original Ancona Blue.

@McMark Do you recall providing this engine since your listed in the adverts?

Interesting.
Based on the ebay username, it appears a dealer bought it and is trying to flip it.
